Assignment Instructions
As a group, you will be writing a paper addressing different strategies to ensuring employee compliance with health and safety legislation. Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation is extremely important in any organization. Different approaches are used to accomplish this task. One approach is to force compliance through established standards, rigorous inspections, and implementing harsh punishment for failing to meet the established standards. Another approach is to encourage self-reliance by providing the workplace parties with the information and resources necessary to monitor and enhance safety in the workplace. Groups must address the following in their written submission:
1.
Discuss the two approaches for organizations to get employees to comply with Health and Safety Legislation, company rules, regulations, and policies:
a.
Force Compliance
b.
Self-Reliance
2.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of these approaches.

When discussing the above, be sure to consider a variety of theories including reinforcement theory, goal-setting theory, and self-determination theory and also how the ABC (Antecedent-Behaviour-
Consequence) model of safety behaviour relates to the different approaches.
4.

IMPORTANT FINAL PAPER NOTE:
This paper is a group assignment; while most groups will want to “divide the work” and “piece” the individually written parts together into a final product, students must keep in mind that the final paper must be presented as one continuous document that flows well. In other words, the reader (your professor) should not be able to identify the individually written parts of the paper (the paper should be written in a consistent font, font size, titles/subtitles etc.). You must work together as a group to ensure that the final submission flows well and is formatted to appear
as if it was written as one continuous document and not individual parts put together at the end. Before you submit it to the submission folder – look at your final paper and decide if it looks like one person wrote it or not. If it looks like multiple people wrote it, you will receive a deduction in grades.
