Healthcare Department SNHU HCM-415 Healthcare Strategic Management & Policy
Dr. Don Nowill.
11/22/2023.
Summary of policies. Some of the policies at Huntington Hospital include patient-centered care. HH emphasizes this approach and aims to provide compassionate and excellent healthcare services to each patient. This policy focuses on enhancing the patient experience and delivering high-quality care aligned with the organization's mission and vision. HH acknowledges the importance of technology in healthcare and has policies supporting the integration of advanced technologies for
improved patient outcomes. As an environment of stress, frustration, doubt, and poor communication was sensed when Markey was brought in, she implemented open door policies to
promote transparency between the teams and their managers. (Drabkin & Soule, 2015). Because of this HH likely has policies supporting information sharing, care coordination, supporting partnerships to improve the overall patient care. HH employees also mentioned that there are no specific policies or procedures to follow, and due to this, the policies may include initiatives for staff education, skill development, and adherence to regulatory requirements, contributing to a competent and adaptable workforce.
Current policies and how they address the influence of the identified factors
.
HH’s current organizational policies show that there is a proactive approach to the various environmental and external factors influencing the healthcare industry. The emphasis on patient-
centered care aligns with the external factor of evolving patient expectations and demands. The policies that promote technological integration show an awareness of the external factor of rapid advancements in healthcare technology. This puts HH in a position to navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare IT and provide more efficient and effective services. The policies surrounding workforce training and development and collaborative care models recognize the understanding of the external factor of continuous industry advancements and evolving skill
requirements and aligns with the external factor of the industry's shift toward more integrated and coordinated care models.
Internal policy changes.
There are some internal policy changes/ new policies that I feel will need to be implemented to address the issues at HH more effectively. There should be an enhanced interdepartmental communication policy because strengthening communication channels between different departments is crucial for coordinated and efficient patient care. A community outreach and education program should be implemented because these can foster a better understanding of the available healthcare services and promote overall well-being for Pasadena community in which HH is located. There should be a policy established to regularly review and update processes at HH to ensure that they remain current and align with the ever-evolving industry standards. To promote a culture of continuous improvement, policies that offer incentives for employees actively involved in quality improvement should also be considered. Recognizing and rewarding contributions to enhancing patient care quality can motivate staff, boost morale, and drive positive change.
Role of healthcare manager.
The healthcare manager plays a vital role in guiding strategic planning processes around policy revision or developments in an organization. The healthcare manager should assume the role of change policy officer to guide the change management process, address potential resistance, communicate effectively with staff, and provide the necessary support to facilitate a smooth transition. The healthcare manager should also facilitate collaboration and communication among various stakeholders, including frontline staff, department heads, and community representatives. Involving diverse perspectives ensures that the policies meet the

needs and expectations of relevant stakeholders. Healthcare managers also assume a leadership role as they usually manage other employees in the organization. (Kokemuller, n.d.). Healthcare managers should also be involved in the strategic planning and alignment and policy analysis and
assessments to ensure that the plans align with the organization’s mission and vision. Key stakeholder influence.
Key stakeholders play a crucial role in influencing the strategic planning process for policy
change or development within a healthcare organization. As mentioned above, involving different stakeholders with different perspectives ensures that the policies consider the needs and
expectations of all relevant stakeholders. Board directors and executive leadership have significant influence because their vision and organizational policies shape the overarching goals
that policies aim to achieve. The medical and clinical staff like nurses and physicians’ input is vital because their experience contributes to proper clinical practices. Patients (who I believe are the most important stakeholders especially in healthcare) and community representatives should also be recognized because their feedback ensures policies consider the unique needs and preferences of the community being served. Patient-centered policies contribute to improved satisfaction and better health outcomes.
