The five social determinants of health are: 1. Economic Stability 2. Education, Access, and Quality 3. Health Care Access and Quality 4. Neighborhood and Built Environment, and 5. Social and Community Context Secondary data was obtained to help define the health of the community at large by comparing demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. One of the primary goals of secondary data is to help describe community behavior, the social and physical environment, and healthcare usage. In using the data, life expectancy can be broken down by the total population by county, race and ethnicity within each county, and by the entire state of Florida. This is used to help determine the health of a community and provide more information by race and ethnicity to see how social determinants of health are impacting the population. An analysis of the leading cause of death by county can also be analyzed to determine how the population is impacted by things such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, etc. The data was used to identify the nine key themes and to prioritize these themes, stakeholders and community leaders ranked them according to importance and identified that mental health, access, and areas of poverty were the top three areas of emphasis (CHNA, 2021). Secondary data can be utilized in many studies of populations. In Turkey, the Roma, population is identified as a group that suffers from unequal rights, poverty, discrimination, unemployment and insufficient housing. They lack access to basic education, healthcare, and government services that others in Turkey are given. Due to this, the Turkish government made goals to increase employment in vulnerable populations while also sharing information across government institutions, policymakers, and community organizations to improve transparency and better collaborate to meet goals for these populations. To pull data, especially secondary data, Turkey is leveraging their electronic health records (EHR) and for this study, they used the Nightingale system to study and better categorize the health and social problems and their related behaviors for the Roma population in Istanbul (Ardic & Aktas, 2022). Technology is increasingly being leveraged due to more healthcare institutions implementing universal EHRs that can quickly provide all sorts of healthcare data and analytics. This easily accessible data will continue to be refined and used to target efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable populations all over the world. Ardic, A., & Aktas, E. (2022).
