Possible solutions are approaching the patient with the medication and instructing him to take it. Another possible solution would be to take the time to develop a relationship of trust to ease the patient's fears of being poisoned and get his willful cooperation to take the medication. A third possible solution is not giving the medication to the patient and revisiting the at another time. In the first option, the strength is the transparency in approaching the patient with the medication and instructing the patient to take the medication, please. The limitation of this solution is the patient's refusal to take it. The second option involves the family, the strength is collaborating with family members by including them in conversation regarding medication and how best to safely administer medication. The limitations with this option are the family dynamics are often hard to navigate. The third option strengths could be observation to better address needs. Limitations are patient becomes institutionalized. Staff taking the time to build trust and develop a relationship with the patient would be my recommendation. Though this may take longer it is aligned with respecting the patient's rights to autonomy, and also with recognizing the importance of relationships. The duty, obligations, and responsibility are to the patient, and it would better serve the long-term needs of this patient to have his cooperation in taking medication. Empowering the patient with decisions in his treatment can prepare him for living outside of a facility. Returning to the community and being near his son and other loved ones is the goal for this patient. The Solution aligns with core values and principles such as integrity in professional practice by upholding standards, and accountability in addition to respect for dignity and worth by empowering the patient, respecting autonomy, and active listening.
