Project Description: What is the actual project or product that you will be creating / producing? Now, describe this project in detail. Response: The project will be a Professional Development for teachers on Youth Mental Health and Connectedness in alignment with a biblical worldview. The final product will be a Prezi or PowerPoint utilized to deliver a professional development for school-based staff, educators, and coaches regarding youth mental health promoting community connectedness and highlighting the biblical foundations of faith, hope, and love and promoting prayer. 2. Rationale: State why you chose this project topic. How does this project fit into the broad area of education? How does it relate and/or benefit to your current work position or the job you are seeking? Response: The rationale of this project is to provide school-based staff, educators, and coaches with the necessary skills and tools to recognize students in crisis and assist them utilizing a biblical foundation. It will delineate sample programs to develop student community and connectedness. As a currently school counselor and trainer for Youth Mental Health First Aid, I believe this is an important instrument for any adult who regularly interacts with young people. Further, such a tool creates a stronger and safer school community. 3. Statement of Purpose: State what you plan to accomplish with your project. Response: I plan to create a PowerPoint or Prezi professional development. This program covers prevalent mental health issues faced by adolescents, examines the usual developmental stages during adolescence, and imparts a 5-step strategy for assisting young individuals in crisis and non-crisis scenarios. EDUC 696 encompass anxiety, depression, substance misuse, conditions involving psychosis, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. Further, there will be an emphasis on interventions that include community, connectedness, and prayer groups. 4. Research-Based: State what sorts of journal and/or article information you will use to complete this project (i.e., what will you look for? What connection does your project topic have to current issues? What current issues need to be addressed with your topic? What issues do you perceive you will research?). Response: I will review articles that target effective strategies pertaining to youth mental health interventions, the power of community, interpersonal connectedness, along with prayer and a biblical worldview. I will utilize both case studies and peer reviewed journal articles from sources such as Mental Health First Aid, The National Council for Mental Wellbeing, and other scholarly sources and websites. Further, I will incorporate information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, The Partnership Center, and The Center for Faith- based & Neighborhood Partnerships. 5. Projected Application: Explain how you plan to use your project once it is completed? Be specific on the audience(s) who will use it… Response: The projected application of this project includes incorporating it into the Youth Mental Health First Aid training sessions that I conduct on a near monthly basis in my current role as a school counselor. The audience includes parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, athletic coaches, school staff, peers, and anyone that interacts with adolescents. 6. Description of the projected outcomes: State what you think will happen as a result of completing this project. Keep it specific so that you can document whether or not it occurs. Response: The projected outcomes of this project include an increase in the knowledge of signs and symptoms, as well as risk factors associated with mental health crisis and substance abuse. The anticipated outcomes of this professional development include the ability to recognize various professional and self-help resources for individuals grappling with mental health or substance use challenges. Participants are expected to demonstrate diminished stigma and heightened empathy towards those facing mental health issues. Additionally, the program aims to boost participants' confidence and inclination to assist individuals in distress. Ultimately, individuals completing this training are anticipated to apply the acquired skills and information from this professional development to effectively manage their own mental well-being and assist those around them.
