HIS 100 Module Five Ac2vity Template: Historical Interpreta2ons Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Iden8fy the topic you chose to explore: •
Climate Change and Environmental Issues: Chernobyl Describe how exploring your research ques8on improved your understanding of the historical roots of your current event. •
Exploring my research ques8on has improved my understanding of the historical roots of my current event. My research ques8on is, how did the secrets and the pressures of the leaders (directors and supervisors) of the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant lead the the world’s worst nuclear disaster. My current event is the event of “the U.S. Bets on Small Nuclear Reactors to Help Fix a Huge Climate Problem”. Learning about my research ques8on and what led to this disaster has helped me understand what contributed to this current event. It helps me understand the roots of the current event because it shows how there are more safety regula8ons, especially on nuclear materials (Plumer & Penn, 2023). Explain how biased perspec8ves influence what is known about both your historical and current events. •
Biased perspec8ves influence what is known about both my historical and current events because a bias is not a perspec8ve. A perspec8ve is someone’s point of view of what occurred, which would be beneficial to use for these events. However, a bias is either posi8ve or nega8ve and influences others based off of one’s beliefs, assump8ons, and values. They show bias in one way and can impact how others believe the event happened, and can lead to a stray in facts on what actually happened. Propose how the narra8ve about your historical event might change if it were told from a missing perspec8ve. •
I believe that the leaders of the historical event, so the directors and supervisors of the Chernobyl plant, are the missing perspec8ve that could change the narra8ve on the historical event. I think that this is because blame was placed on the leaders, specifically one, and being able to here there perspec8ve would give a new narra8ve. It would give insights on who actually did what and if the blame is theirs or if we should be looking deeper into this incident. I think this missing perspec8ve could help others understand what the leaders went through and how they may have been like any ordinary being that was led astray. Propose how the narra8ve about your current event might change if it were told from a missing perspec8ve. •
I believe that the leaders of the current event are also the missing perspec8ve. However, by the leaders here I mean actual leaders, like those that decide how this can fix the problem. I believe we here from certain people and from the “news” about what is going on so I believe these perspec8ves are slightly altered in order to get different reac8ons out of the audience. However, if a leader were to speak on this and share their perspec8ve we can see what they see and can decide for ourselves if they did their own research on this fix or if they just listened to who is telling them what to do and say.
