Propaganda essay: Since the beginning of mankind, wars have been fought for what people believe in and by far the most famous and blood soaked war was the Second World War which took place between 1939 and 1945. Winston Churchill is famous for saying that history is written by the victors and its based on this notion that propaganda was such a driving force on both sides. I believe that it is still utilized and thriving till this day while being used in more recent events such as vaccination and the use masks with the emergence of the COVID-19 epidemic. We see this propaganda not only in the spreading of misinformation but also in very public events with very minuscule details that can bring major victory and improve image propaganda wise such as seen in the example of the 1936 Berlin Olympics or commonly referred to as the « Nazi Olympics » when Chancellor Hitler completely excluded Jewish athletes from the German team, promoted his Aryan philosophy and had swastikas which could be seen from anywhere. So even though they didn’t win on the podium, they still had massive victory on the global stage propaganda wise. We can say that this was the beginning of the glorification of the future Third Reich and this propaganda will become more prevalent and reach new heights during the war to the point that he would be presented as savior or a superior being in the posters: In French it is referred to as “culte de chef” which translates to cult leader. In today’s environment, it is even easier to influence people on an even wider scale. This spread of misinformation can have major repercussions not only on the current generation but future ones as well such as promoting ignorance and some bad choices that can come with this false information. Propaganda can create a false image of a certain group and spread hatred to further a specific agenda. Going back to the example of the WW2, we saw a devastating amount of Jewish casualties and inhumane treatment and for the Covid-19 example, we saw people who refused to vaccinate and wear masks pass away due to not taking the epidemic seriously. To combat these issues, it is vital to spread awareness first: « The first step is admitting there is a problem », only then can we make a conscious effort to improve the current situation. Just like fake news, we must also consider the source of the information to see what they have to gain from spreading it, check for supporting sources for reliability and finally consult experts on the matter. After reviewing both past and present, I believe it’s safe to say that propaganda, which is used as an instrument of war, is detrimental no matter the setting as it is used to glorify and distort the truth. We must
