Distinguish between primary and secondary sources.
A primary source is based on the account of a person or who was present during the time an
event took place. The primary source does not need to be written by the person or persons
involved in the event. A secondary source is where the accounts from primary sources are
collected and re-written based on the authors understanding of the previously written works.
Explain why it is important to consult a variety of sources when conducting historical research. Include
specific details and examples.

Choose a current event related to the subject of your historical research question and explain how they
are connected.
Recently the American Football Team formerly known as the “The Washington Redskins”
changed their name to “The Washington Commanders”. This change was brought about at the
behest of several activist organizations. Events like the Wounded Knee Occupation are the
driving force behind the changes that we are seeing today.
