The primary sources differ from the secondary sources, the primary source has interviews and evidence from the actual time the event took place in New York and presents evidence more clearly from different perspectives at the time of the riots. The secondary sources provide a deeper understanding of the events of the riots with detailed research from multiple sources and provide the impact that Stonewall has on today’s events and laws. Describe one narrative that has significantly influenced the contemporary understanding of your historical event. The Stonewall Rebellion’s impact on todays LGBT community made a movement we still celebrate, the pride festivals that take place across the United States are to celebrate to movement of the Stonewall Riots. These sources also bring in a different perspective to others
that may have just seen the negative media portrayal, the secondary sources compare the primary sources and current events to see the impact important history has made for the community. Stonewall is and still is today, a very historical moment in history for my community and learning more details than I knew before this assignment has piqued my interest even more in history and what led up to the riots. Explain how the chosen narrative helps you better understand your historical research question. Please provide your revised research question and then explain how the chosen narrative helps you better understand your historical event. What has the impact been of the Stonewall Riots on the LGBT community today? I chose this topic to learn more about due to the fact I am part of the community and this historic movement in very important in the changes over the years within the laws and acceptance today. I want to learn how society responded to the riots and how compared it is today with society. When researching deeper I uncovered police reports which showed a different viewpoint of the actual events, which gave me a different perspective of the events that happened versus what the media released.
