EDUC20705 Working with School-Age Children Description: Working in a group of 4-5 and research the Child Care and Early Year Act (CCEYA, 2014) for regulations pertaining to school-age care as well as the extended care for kindergarten children. Based on the information researched, the group will answer the following questions: 1. According to CCEYA, what is the age group that school-age care programs serve? The children range from about four years old and twelve are usually served in the school-age care programs. 2. What are the staff/child ratio and maximum group size for school-age care programs? The staff/child ratio are 1:15 and the maximum group size for school age care programs is 30 not more than that. 3. What are the staff/child ratio and maximum group size for kindergarten classrooms, and for extended care before and after school hours? The staff-child ratio should be 1:13 for kindergarten classrooms and for a maximum group size will be 26if we talk about the staff/child ratio for extended care before and after school hours then it will be 1:15 and for a maximum group size it will be 30. 4. What is the staff qualification or training required to work in school-age care programs, or in kindergarten classrooms, or extended care programs? Their high school, diploma in early childhood education should be completed and should be registered with the College of ECE. 5. Are there different requirements for outdoor play areas for school-age children, or kindergarten children (e.g. fence)? There should be enough space, proper equipment, and required materials for the children. If we talk about fence it is highly recommended, if the material is broken it should be replaced or repaired. 6. What are the requirements for curriculum planning as well as indoor and outdoor schedules for school-age or kindergarten children during before and after school hours, PA days or March Break? The requirements for indoor and outdoor curriculum should be balanced and should be organized. For the indoor schedule, there should be a number of activities that Should be related to their educational projects, arts and crafts in which they can be engaged and it can also support their development in various domains such as cognitive, social, psychological, etc. Moreover, for the outdoor schedule the physical activities are required like games, sports etc for their well being.
