Women's role in pre-Columbian Native American cultures was carrying out agricultural work, grinding grains to prepare food for the family, and carrying out household tasks, using old traditional methods that require strength and skills to do so. 1b) "How They Caught Fish" -Which native American groups in Texas relied on canoes for fishing and transportation? How did canoes help them perform these functions? The coastal tribes of Native Americans were the ones who relied on canoes for fishing and transportation; since one canoe could hold an entire family and their stuff, it helped them with moving during coastal bays and rivers, and they used to fish in a dugout canoe as others were spearfishing in the river behind them. 1c) "A Wichita Indian Village" -How did the shelters of various native American groups reflect the general orientation of their daily lives, impacted most strongly by how they acquired food? The shelters of native Americans were strongly impacted by how they acquired food and their daily lives. For example, the coastal groups used small portable huts covered with moss and made in such a way it could be quickly unfolded and assembled due to their permanent mobility,
while nomadic groups used leather-covered tepees, while the Caddo lived in thatched and grass shelters since they were an agricultural people. Chapter 2: "The DeLeon Expedition Finds the Ruins of Fort St. Louis" 1- according to the Spanish writer, what had the Karankawa attackers done to the property of the French after their attack? Due to its mud-covered exteriors and interiors, the writer concluded that the Fort's structures were ineffective for defense. The building's roof was likewise covered in buffalo hides, but he thought that the ground was excellent terrain for protection. Chapter 3: "Stephen Austin Reacts to the Fredonian Rebellion " 1- what do you think were some of the more demanding words and phrases that Austin used to describe the Fredonian rebels and their cause? Austin claimed that these males were criminals fascinated with violence, making them worse than Native Americans. Also, the fact that Austin viewed the Fredonian rebels as no longer Americans but rather desperate outlaws who had no other goal than to destroy the nation was among the most scathing adjectives and phrases he used to characterize them. 2-how did Austin try to use the Fredonians’ alliance Cherokee Indians to rally his people to end the revolt? Austin attempted to gather his people to end the uprising by urging them to take up arms for liberty. In contrast, the Fredonian rebels siding with the Indians swore to continue a war of murder and plunder against Texans. He tried to persuade people to live up to national standards and defend their families and property.
