Century Context lesson before answering the question. In your opinion, which of the trends challenged the traditional hierarchy of society in British North America? Why? Explain how this trend challenged the established authority or the established hierarchy. You must identify the trend in the first sentence and then define it in your second sentence. In my opinion, the trend of population growth challenged the traditional hierarchy of society in British North America. Population growth is when the number of people on earth/ in an area increases. I believe this trend challenged the traditional hierarchy of society in British North America because as the population grew, so did the need for goods; people started to produce their own goods, competing with England (18th Century Context: Trends that Made the Revolution Possible). With that being said, people slowly stopped relying on Britain for their goods and services. According to “18th Century Context: Trends that Made the Revolution Possible”, population growth challenged the traditional hierarchy of society in British North America because, “most of the news printed in the British colonies came from Britain and was copied by American printers, but by the 1730s Ben Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac began printing stories written locally.” With that being said, at first everything had to come from Britain but as time went on, people began to produce their own goods and services which resulted in them

slowly separating from Britain. “As the population increased and the demand for goods increased, those in the colonies, especially Bostonians in Massachusetts, began to produce goods that competed with England” (18th Century Context: Trends that Made the Revolution Possible).
That shows that since population growth was occurring, they had to compete more and more with others who are producing their own goods and not buying from England, which is how it challenged the traditional hierarchy of society in British North America.
