SEXUAL BEHAVIOR THORUGOUT HISTORY 2 Sexual Behavior Throughout History Worksheet 1. I have selected Taoism as the topic of discussion for this inquiry. According to Francoeur (1992), this approach emphasizes the notion that men need to acquire the ability to regulate their ejaculation in order to derive pleasure from a sexual encounter. In the context of this religious belief system, there is a belief in the importance of achieving a harmonious equilibrium between masculine and feminine energy. For instance, proponents of Taoism argue that men are capable of performing tasks traditionally associated with women, such as adopting a seated posture when peeing, as discussed in the context of Taoism's principles of ethics, morality, community, and its perspectives on gender and sexuality. One noteworthy aspect of this particular culture is the positive attitude towards premarital sexual activity, which is not stigmatized but rather promoted. The perception of individuals is that it involves the integration of Yin and Yang forces. Taoism is widely regarded as a religious tradition that embraces a gender-neutral perspective. This implies that, in contrast to American culture, gender norms are not necessarily present in their society. It is widely held that the presence of both masculinity and femininity is essential for fostering a harmonious and well- rounded milieu. 2. This analysis will adopt a historical lens to explore the lifestyle of ancient Greeks and the historical trajectory of sexuality. The Greek domestic sphere was characterized by a deliberate focus on both procreation and the preservation of family assets to be passed down through generations. In the context of matrimonial unions, such partnerships were commonly organized and initiated throughout the early stages of life. Purdue University is a renowned institution of higher education located in the United States. Women in historical contexts experienced significant restrictions on their rights, often being subjected to a narrow range of entitlements. Moreover, it was customary for women to enter into marriage at a relatively young age, often about 15 years old. Numerous women's roles were not adequately recorded due to their societal perception as primarily fulfilling the reproductive function. While the practice of arranged marriages was prevalent, it is noteworthy that there was a lack of significant religious associations with regard to matters of sex and sexuality. The ancient Greeks were known for their notable engagement in sexual activities, particularly among men. The individuals sought instruction from the deities of ancient Greek mythology and were renowned for their indulgence in sensual gratification. Greek men frequently have sexual relationships with male adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19, according to a publication by The Washington Post. According to Stone (2021), the concept of beauty in ancient Greece was epitomized by the idealized representation of young males. On page 1, the author discusses: Same- sex sexual activities were prevalent in the past, mostly driven by hedonistic motivations rather than being rooted in romantic or relational intentions. The discussion, exploration, and expression of sex and sexuality are regarded as normal and beneficial aspects of human life. 3. It is crucial that, as counselors, we create an environment in which clients feel safe enough to open up about their experiences, particularly in regard to their sexuality, due to the social stigma associated with the conversation. In this scenario, I will be providing counseling to a woman who is anxious about sexual encounters. Michael, a 30-year-old man, seeks therapy
