HIS 100 Module Five Activity Template: Historical Interpretations Replace the bracketed text below with your responses. Identify the topic you chose to explore: The Tulsa Massacre Describe how exploring your research question improved your understanding of the historical roots of your current event. Through research, I have gained a deeper understanding of the factors that led to the massacre, including racial tensions, economic disparities, and the influence of white supremacy in the early 20 th century. I also learned about the economic success of the Greenwood District; it is crucial because it challenges the racist stereotypes that were used to justify the massacre. By exploring this aspect, I gained a better understanding of how racial resentment and envy played a role in violence. It also highlights the devastating impact of the massacre on the Black community in terms of lost lives and the destruction of a vibrant economic and cultural hub. Explain how biased perspectives influence what is known about both your historical and current events. Biased perspectives have played a big role in shaping both historical and current events surrounding the Tulsa Massacre. In the aftermath of the massacre, there was an effort to distort and suppress the real story, with many official records and accounts being destroyed. Additionally, media coverage at the time often perpetuated racist narratives that downplayed the severity of the violence and blamed the Black community for these events. Propose how the narrative about your historical event might change if it were told from a missing perspective. If the narrative about the Tulsa massacre were told from a missing perspective, such as the perspective of the Black community, it would shed light on the experiences and suffering endured by the victims. This missing perspective would highlight the systemic racism and discrimination faced by the Black community, the economic prosperity of the Greenwood District before the massacre, and the resilience and resistance demonstrated by the Black community in the face of violence and destruction of it. Propose how the narrative about your current event might change if it were told from a missing perspective. if the narrative about the current event surrounding the Tulsa massacre were told from a missing perspective, such as the perspectives of the descendants of the victims, it would provide a better understanding of the ongoing impact and intergenerational trauma resulting from the massacre. It would also highlight the efforts of the community to seek justice, reparations, and reconciliation. REFERENCES:
