(1), 42-67. doi:10.2307/1832364 This source detailed the events of Shay’s Rebellion which occurred prior to the Constitutional Convention and played a large role in the birth of the drafting of the Constitution itself. The Articles of Confederation did not have a strong system in place for governing the people and left much of the authority up to each individual state. The lack of currency following the war, coupled with the enforcement of debt and tax payment on those that were already struggling, created a great deal of agitation and
erupted in this defiance to the existing government. The events of Shays Rebellion is a direct example of the inadequacies of the current government and the Articles of Confederation. It was this rebellion in 1786 that prompted the framers of the Constitution to create a more solid structure of government that would establish a stronger union for the country and the people. Without the Articles of Confederation, and Shays Rebellion, who knows if the Constitution we know today would have been born.

Rebellion of 1794. This event is considered to be the first test of the effectiveness of the government since the Constitution was put into place. Support Your Thesis Statement 1791. With small profit margins on whiskey to begin with, this tax reduced it even further and caused unrest among those that owned the farm stills. Riots ensued and the Washington Administration was forced to take action to put an end to the uprising.
Secretary was able to implement an excise tax in the first place. The source states this, “was to give the federal government a chance to demonstrate its ability to levy and collect taxes, as authorized in the new Constitution” (Lodge, 1985). The second example is how the new executive branch, the Washington Administration, had authority to send in militia to put an end to the unrest and rioting.
