The historical context surrounding this event is that it really began conversations in the political realm for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. This event led to the development of activist groups and those groups subsequently began the Gay Rights Movement. Describe a key historical figure or group’s participation in your historical event.
The Gay Community stood up against the mistreatment of law enforcement and rioted. Explain the key historical figure or group’s motivation to participate in your historical event.
The motivation of the Gay Community to riot and stand up against mistreatment by law enforcement was based on decades long mistreatment by law enforcement but also their heightened victimization. Articulate how the historical context caused or influenced your chosen historical event.
I chose this event because I work in law enforcement, and I truly believe that knowing the history of times where police got it wrong is the first step in continuing to get it right. Explain how connecting your historical event and current event improves the understanding of your topic.
I believe that we can understand why riots, and such are utilized to demand government action when it has proven to be true in times past. An unfortunate truth.
