Module 7 Short Responses – Question 1
Name three historical lenses that you could apply to gain a fuller picture of the
relationship between Natives and white settlers. Be sure to respond to this question in no
more than one sentence, using proper grammar.
The three historical lenses that could apply to gain a fuller picture of the relationship between
the Natives and white settlers would be the social, economic, and cultural.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 2
Revise the thesis statement at the top of this page to reflect a more complex view of the
relationship between Natives and white settlers. Your revised thesis statement should be
longer than one sentence.
Conflicts between Natives and white settlers in the early 19th century can be attributable to
multiple causes. The first one being socially how the two interacted with each other. The
second, economically, the land the natives had was good for farming and it also had precious
things like gold. Lastly, culturally the natives and white settlers view the land and what it
provided differently. Natives believed the land was more than just land, it was a provider to
them and the animals.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 3

Module 7 Short Responses – Question 4
Massasoit's decision to approach the Pilgrims about an alliance was contingent on what
previous event or events? (Name one or two.)
Massasoit approached the Pilgrims about an alliance because the Wampanoag people were
being threatened by the Narragansett people.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 5
Name one short-term consequence and one long-term consequence of the alliance
between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims.
One short term consequence is the Wampanoag people were safe in their alliance with the
Pilgrims. The long term consequence were as more white English settlers came over the
balance of power between the two sides was exponentially greater on the white settlers side.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 6
How has your understanding of the historical event in your essay changed as a result of
your research? Describe one instance of a misconception or a wrong idea you had about
your topic that has been corrected after researching and writing about it.
My historical event pertains to The Great Molasses Flood of 1919 which happened in the
North End of Boston, MA. When I began my research I was under the impression that the
collapsing of the tank was in direct relation to the employees of the Purity Distilling
Company. After reading through a few sources I've seen that the problem started way before
the employees ever got their hands on the tank.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 7
Name four historical lenses through which you could analyze the events of the Cherokee
Removal. Specify one aspect of this event for each lens that you cite.
There are four historical lenses in which we can analyze the Cherokee Removal. Beginning
with the political lens the Treaty of New Echota which would relocate the Cherokee tribe
west of the Mississippi. The next lens would be culturally. Part of the original treaty included
a clause that would allow Cherokee members to stay on their land if they became American
citizens. The third lens would be justice. In 1838 the Cherokee people were forcibly removed
from their land and the rest were place into 11 internment camps. Lastly we could apply the
economic lens. The treaty promised the Cherokee people 5 million dollars and money for
education if they moved. When the treaty was voided the Cherokee people will still forced off
their land and made to make due with what they had which wasn't much of anything.
Module 7 Short Responses – Question 8
Agree or disagree with the following thesis statement: "The Treaty of New Echota was
invalid, and the National Party was correct to oppose it." Cite at least three historical
facts that support your position.
Unfortunately I have to agree with the thesis statement. After reviewing the Treaty I don't see
a single place where President Jackson signed off on the treaty itself. John Ross being a
representative for the Cherokee people denounced the treaty as well. The National Party was
opposed to the treaty because of the damage it could potentially do to the Cherokee people.
