The Lewis and Clark Expedition Vs. The California Gold Rush
The Lewis and Clark Undertaking was a greatly critical occasion in American history.
After the Louisiana Buy, President Jefferson inquired his companion Meriwether Lewis, who in
turn brought along his companion William Clark, to assist lead an undertaking through the
modern arrive. Most imperatively they looked for to discover a water section over the nation to
the Pacific to open up a straightforward exchange course with Asian nations. The Northwest
Entry was not their only objective. “Lewis and Clark moreover had orders to set up neighborly
connections with the western tribes, presenting them to American exchange goods and
empowering warring bunches to create peace" (Corbett et al., 2014). This was to create settling
the range easier, and to dodge the wars with the locals that were so common when the colonies
were to begin with being settled. The Endeavor was able to make inviting relations with most of
the tribes they experienced, and indeed in spite of the fact that they may not discover a
Northwest Section, their endeavor was a victory within the regard that they were able to make
connections with tribes and make settlement of the domain much less demanding.
As critical as the Lewis and Clark Endeavor was, the California Gold Surge was indeed
more vital. The California Gold surge was a “rapid convergence of fortune searchers in
California" that started after gold was found at Sutter’s Process in early 1848 and come to its
crest in 1852” (Reference book Britannica, n.d.). The Gold Surge caused so numerous
individuals to move out west and settle the domain that it was made a state as it were a number
of a long time after the Gold Surge started. Whereas the Lewis and Clark Undertaking made
settlement simpler, the California Gold Surge really empowered and specifically caused mass
settlement of the arrive out west. It indeed brought in mass migrants from abroad, particularly

China. This moreover driven to racially based approaches, predispositions, and separation
against individuals from Asian since they were seen as taking White people’s occupations and
riches.
The idea of Manifest Destiny was not very influential during the Lewis and Clark
Expedition because it was not as prominent at that point. However, the basic idea behind
Manifest Destiny, that white people had a responsibility to settle all the land they could, was still
present and influenced the part of the expedition that was to befriend local tribes to help make
settlement of the territory easier. Manifest Destiny is easier seen in the California Gold Rush.
During the Gold rush, settlers would force native people off their land or even go as far as killing
natives to gain access to land that they believed they had a right to settle and mine for gold,
which is the core idea of Manifest Destiny.
I accept both of these chronicled occasions are exceptionally in imperative in history
since Lewis and Clark gave us an expansive base of logical data and the California Gold Surge
got that to be a state eventually which expanded our country even more. Be that as it may, I think
that the Lewis and Clark Endeavor was most impactful since they truly gave us the base of a
conventional sum of the information we have nowadays. Their investigation started more
questions from others which fair lead to more inquire about of our world. That's so impactful!
