Identify the topic you chose to explore:
· Tulsa Massacre of 1921
Identify a historical perspective that could be applied to your historical event.
· There are two historical perspectives here.
One of injustice and one of hate.
The injustice perspective is from those that were part of the black community that was killed and
had their homes and businesses burned and looted.
In 2021,
Viola Fletcher who is the oldest
known living survivor of the Tulsa Massacre testified before Congress saying,
“I
am here seeking justice.
I am here asking my country to acknowledge what
happened in Tulsa in 1921.”

The hate perspective comes from the city of Tulsa after the Massacre.
Two weeks after the
Massacre, the Tulsa City Commission had this to say about the massacre,
“Let the blame for this
negro uprising lie right where it belongs — on those armed negros and their followers who started
this trouble and who instigated it and any persons who seek to put half the blame on the white
people are wrong,”

Revise your research question based on evidence from your primary and secondary sources.
· How did the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 help to change racial laws in the U.S. and how did it
eventually lead up to racial equality?
· How does the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 relate to the killing of George Floyd?
Explain how historical perspective and evidence from sources influenced your finalized research
question.
· After reading about the survivors of the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 and how that they still seek
justice, it’s almost impossible for me to say that the aftermath of the Massacre influenced more
strict laws around racial crimes.
One could argue that events such as the Tulsa Massacre helped to
influence the civil rights movement, but so did every racial injustice event that took place in the
U.S.
To definitively say that this event led to stricter laws for racial crimes would be a massive
assumption.
The Tulsa Massacre was and still is a great injustice.
Even though the city of Tulsa
deputized several of the rioters who committed this heinous crime, they still refuse to accept any
responsibility for it.
If this event still seeks justice, how can we then say that it influenced justice?
