Identify the topic you chose to explore: Tulsa Massacre of 1921 Attempt to write the APA style citations for your four sources.Include links to each source. You will not be penalized for incorrect citation format. Oliphant, John A. (1921, July 3). “Transcript of the Evidence of the Witnesses, John A. Oliphant and Laurel J. Buck.” https://digitalprairie.ok.gov/digital/collection/race-riot/id/1204/rec/1 Franklin, Buck Cobert. The narrative in the primary sources helps to paint a picture of the destruction that was received on a personal level by the citizens of Greenwood. While the secondary sources help to paint a picture of the overall destruction, and helps to give an account for what happened, they cannot account for the first hand experiences and the personal toll it took on the residents. To hear people over 100 years after the massacre speak out to congress for the government to take accountability for an injustice that was done and the descriptions given from what was seen, it helps me to better understand how this affected their lives and the lives of their future generations. Describe one narrative that has significantly influenced the contemporary understanding of your historical event.
The narrative from the Tulsa Race Massacre, 100 years later really spoke to me. When I read how that the Tulsa City Commission just 2 weeks after the massacre blamed the black community for what happened is just outrageous. It just goes further to strengthen my views on the injustice that was done to this community and how that the city of Tulsa to this day refuses to take responsibility for not just what it allowed to happen, but what it supported and helped cause happen. Explain how the chosen narrative helps you better understand your historical research question. Please provide your revised research question and then explain how the chosen narrative helps you better understand your historical event. It helps me to understand the difference in how we handle racial crimes in today’s times compared to then. To this day, the victims of the Tulsa Massacre have never received justice for the crimes perpetrated against them. The police officers that were involved in the killing of George Floyd are all serving prison sentences for their disregard of his life.
