Time Wise, Inc. Round 2 Report
Report Due: 9 February 2024
This assignment can be done in groups of two or three students. Note that the students must be in
your same lab group (time slot…9:00 or 10:30). As part of your ongoing consulting for Time
Wise, Inc. (TWI) you are continuing to examine and improve their processes. As a next step,
you will be examining the revised process you use in this Round 2 and you are trying to
understand how it works and what problems continue to exist. Depending upon the results of
your analysis, you will again make recommendations for improvement accordingly. The lab
report (again a letter to your CEO) that you turn in and it should address the items listed below.
A bulleted list with explanations for the bullet points is often a good way to present your
answers. 1.
Analyze your revised production process for Time Wise, Inc.
Compare your revised production process that you proposed for this round with the
original production process you used in the first round. Was your revised process better?
Why was it better? Provide specific examples of how the process was improved and why
that improved the process.
Highlight problems and potential opportunities for improvement that you observed with
your revised production process, be as specific as possible.
Consider how you could further redesign and enhance the production process for
producing the clocks in order to build them more efficiently. Assume that you can have
as many people as needed working. You can change what is done at each workstation,
worker roles/duties, and other facets of production and you have no restrictions on the
changes you can make and thus, you can basically change whatever you want but recall
that you are limited by the size and shape of the room and can only use the tables (or a
subset of them if you choose) provided in the room. Also, note that you cannot change
the design of the clock (still has 4 quadrant markers, 2 hands, etc.) Your line and
operation design will be judged based on how well you satisfy demand (defined by
customer orders).
In your revised design, show the station layout (used in this Round 2), placement, and the
duties of all personnel.
You are still limited by the vendor. The vendor can only ship the number of hand based
on their manufacturing capability.
Your production is still driven by the production forecast and that performance is judged
against customer orders. Consider whether you have a “Pull” system or a “Push” system.
Determine whether you are satisfied with that for your production operation.
2.
Use the drawing of the factory layout that you used in this Round #1 and draw arrows to
show the new material flow
. 3.
Create a diagram showing your new proposed factory layout (that you propose for use in
Round 3), reflecting any changes that you want to make from your Round #1 and #2 layouts
