William Ok TE 100 Introduction Reflection Unironically, this is the first time I have heard the terms innovation leadership and engineering entrepreneurship, which is one of my main reasons for taking this course. I presume innovation leadership is a form of leadership that promotes innovation within others. This type of leadership would encourage others to come up with innovative and creative ideas to solve some problem or to improve a product. I believe that engineering entrepreneurship is defined as exactly as what it sounds like. I expect that entrepreneurship is not only related to business start-ups, but also related to the act of venturing deeper into the business world and attempting to go further beyond than regular convention. Thus, I would define engineering entrepreneurship as the action of intrepid engineers to explore into the unknown of the business world to solve engineering demands. While I imagine that I am aware of the dictionary definitions of innovation, leadership, and engineering entrepreneurship, I hope to explore and breakthrough the superficial knowledge I have of these words. This course is a combination of these words and I hope to understand the relationship and how these words intertwine with one another. Another reason as to why I want to learn about these words is because I believe that the world heavily revolves around all these terms. Innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship is what paves the way for future products and services, so a more comprehensive idea of these words would be beneficial. I have certainly displayed moments of creativity, innovation, leadership, and entrepreneurship throughout my life, but I believe that I do not have strengths in any of these. I say this because of the lack of experience I have in actual real-life application of implementing these skills. I firmly believe that what I can display in an academic environment cannot be directly translated to the real-world. Ideally, I would gain a better understanding of these skills through the TE curriculum, which would allow me to bring what I learn to the real-world. The most obvious and apparent method to develop innovation leadership and engineering entrepreneurship would be to pursue an ILEE degree, which is what I plan to do. Committing to an ILEE degree and taking other TE courses would most definitely bolster these skills. Additionally, when I attend any extracurricular events, instead of thoughtlessly absorbing whatever material is thrown at me, I can begin to think about the material with these skills in mind.
I can apply what I learn in the TE courses to my other engineering courses and try to look through these courses with a difference lens. Another more practical method to foster these skills would be to just look at everyday objects and brainstorm on how to improve them.
