The Special Order Decision A company makes sports uniforms for teams in Waterloo. This company approaches a local club that is hosting the world basketball junior tournament to supply one thousand shirts for the tournament. It is considered a onetime order, as it is unlikely the Waterloo club will host this event again. The club wants the company to reduce its regular price and fill this order. What should you consider in making this decision? Make a list of factors that would be relevant? (1 minute) Some considerations 1. Do we have capacity to fill the order? (opportunity cost) o No other better order that make more money? o Do we have to give up any other (regular) orders? 2. What are the costs of filling the order? o Materials, labour, variable overhead o Shipping, Packaging, delivery o Other? 3. Will the be consistent with our value proposition? o Appropriate price, quality o Appropriate venue/customer segment 4. Will this affect our other customers? o Prices they except? o delivery of their orders? o Quality of their orders? o Competitors? 5. Are there strategic benifits o Good promotional opportunity (putout name on the shirt so everyone can see during the basketball game?)
o Can this attract out customers?
