Principles of project management; role and activity of a manager; enterprise organizational charts; cost estimating; planning and control. Company finances; interest and time value of money; discounted cash flow; evaluation of projects in private and public sectors; depreciation methods; business tax regulations; decision tree; sensitivity analysis. Prerequisites : None This course is prerequisite to: AERO 490, BCEE 464, BLDG 490, BLDG 490A, BLDG 490B, BLDG 491, BLDG 493, CIVI 490, COEN 390, ELEC 390, INDU 330, INDU 490, MECH 490 Suggested Textbook: Either: Engineering Economics: Financial Decision Making for Engineers, N. 2 Topics: Part A – Engineering Management Project Management Organizational Context Organizational Structures Canadian Business Entities Contracts Project Delivery Systems Planning and Scheduling Cost Estimation Project Control Part B – Engineering Economics Interest and Equivalence Time Value of Money Depreciation Present Worth Analysis Annual Cash Flow Analysis Rate of Return Analysis Techniques Inflation Taxation Grading: Assignments: 10% Group Project: 15% Midterm: 20%, it will be held on June 6, 2023, at 6:30 Final exam: 55% Passing Criteria: You must get 50% overall AND 50% on the final exam to pass the course. Exams: One midterm and one final exam will be given. All exams will be closed book. There is no makeup midterm exam. A score of zero will be given to the missed midterm exam. If the student wants to have accommodation for the missed mark, (s)he can submit the Short-Term Absence Form . The student may only use it once during the summer semester (from May to August), excluding the final exam period. The crib sheets will be provided for both exams. Individual Assignments: Homework assignments are completed individually. Assignments will be on the Moodle. Group Project: The instructor will form students’ groups. Each group, which includes 4 to 7 students, is required to work on a case which is relevant to the topics covered in the course. The groups will be announced after the DNE date. More details about the case and the submission procedure will be timely provided. The TAs and markers act like supervisors to assist them. The course instructor may involve for further assistance, if needed . Academic Code of Conduct: All students are expected to fully respect the academic honor system and abide by the Code of Academic Conduct set by Concordia University. Any reasonable suspicion of an honor violation will be reported. Extraordinary circumstances: In the event of extraordinary circumstances and pursuant to the Academic Regulations, the University may modify the delivery, content, structure, forum, location and/or evaluation scheme. In the event of such extraordinary circumstances, students will be informed of the changes.
