Discussion 8.1
2. What are some of the logistics supply chain issues that GLC should consider?
There may be quite a few concerns that GLC needs to think about. They must take into account
whether the storing rooms for empty containers at each port can accommodate an important
growth in Great Lakes container traffic. Another concern is whether the rail and trucking
infrastructure at each port can accommodate a bigger increase in traffic.
3. What recommendation would you make to the GLC board of directors regarding a
containership operation and the possibility of new bulk shipments of oil and possibly chemicals?
I recommend the GLC Board of Directors to consider the advantages and disadvantages of
operating a containership as well as the possibilities for further bulk cargoes of chemicals and
oil. One thing to think about would be the strategic goals of the business. Evaluate if the
company's long-term goals and growth strategy are compatible with growing into containership
operations and additional bulk shipments.
