What:
So What:
Now What:
Austin has 900 acres of
space and Tesla requires 700
acres to build an operational
plant.
Austin easily has enough
space to cover the 700 acres
of land that Tesla requires to
build an operational plant, so
Tesla would not be
constrained for space if they
chose to build the cathode
plant in Austin. Also, if Tesla
has plans to modify/expand
the cathode plant in the
future, they would have an
extra 200 acres of space to
work with, because Austin's
plant has 900 acres of land
(900 acres - 700 acres = 200
extra acres). The extra land
could also be used for
storage if they have
produced an excess amount
of batteries.
Therefore, the Austin location
would be more preferable
(compared to Tulsa), if the
amount of land was the only
consideration.
The consulting team needs to
gather more information
about the layout of the land in
Austin. Are there any slopes
on the land (downward or
upward) that would impact
the building process? Are
there any flat areas of land
that would help with the
building process? Which 700
acres of land should Tesla
use to build the plant, given
the 900 acres of space?
Another thing the consulting
team needs to gather more
information about is the
laws/restrictions of the city of
Austin, to see if they need
any permits or warrants from
the government to authorize
such a big build (due to the
environmental impacts that it
could have).
This information would need
to be gathered before the
consulting team makes a final
recommendation on which
location should be chosen for
the new plant.
The city’s motto “Keep Austin
Weird” shows preference for
local, independent
businesses.
The city of Austin’s motto of
preference for local
independent businesses
could harm Tesla’s revenues
in Austin. The citizens of
Austin are more likely to
purchase substitute products
made by local businesses
rather than the products that
Tesla offers. So, if Tesla
builds the plant in Austin and
the citizens of Austin boycott
The consulting team needs to
gather more information
about Austin’s local,
independent businesses, and
analyze which businesses
are a threat to Tesla’s. How
many local, independent
businesses are there in
Austin? Which businesses
threaten the production of
Tesla’s cathode plant? How
will Tesla satisfy the city’s
Tesla, it could possibly lead
to the shutting down of the
plant, because they aren’t
generating enough revenue.
Therefore, the Austin location
would be less preferable
(compared to Tulsa), if
Austin’s motto was the only
consideration
motto, while also satisfying
their personal needs as well?
They may also want to
conduct surveys to see what
percentage of the city still
agrees with the city’s motto,
since the motto was created
in 2002 and may be outdated.
If the majority of the city
agrees with their motto, then
they may want to consider
building a plant in Tulsa, but if
the majority of the city
disagrees with their motto,
then they may want to
consider building the plant in
Austin.
This information would need
to be gathered before the
consulting team makes a final
recommendation on which
location should be chosen for
the new plant.
