S. G. A. (n.d.) Assessing accuracy can be verified through documenting and implementing during the review process. To ensure internal procedures are implemented, recommendations will need to be followed. ICE will continue to submit a budget that results in incorrect funding, which affects the errors that will continue to occur which will create a budget over or under estimation and follow through the future fiscal years. ICE underestimates the average daily population when figuring out projections for the budget. ICE needs to review its methodology and update its bed rate to reflect current costs and ensure they are meeting its actual need per projected detention costs. By having an accurate method to calculating the needs of detention costs, this leaves room for budget adjustment to meet the need. The accuracy would show that the needs are met and backed up by the actual projection vs the actuality of the new model. By not having the accuracy and documentation available with errors, ICE cannot justify using the model they currently do. This results in errors for every fiscal year and projections based on inaccurate information. The method being used currently does not meet the needs or reliable cost estimate. ICE needs to align their estimated costs with the GAO cost estimated with the estimating and assessment guide for accuracy in their reports. By following the recommendations with the GAO’s cost estimating and assessment guide, they would have more accurate budgets and fulfill the need based on a method that is accurate. If they don’t follow this recommendation, their budgets will continue being inaccurate. They could follow other recommendations, but unless they are implemented, the lack of accuracy in the budget will remain.
