Assessment - Curriculum Standards Curriculum development has shifted toward higher world-class standards since the 1990s.
Under the standards-based approach, all students must meet the same academic achievement level. To ensure all children are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed, this concept has been developed. Therefore, it is paramount that all children are provided with the same level of education to ensure their success. Quality of education is a vital part of society. It can boost a society's economy and social development. Lack of quality education can have negative effects on society, such as reduction in economic output and workforce skills. In addition, it can lower inequality, social exclusion, and poverty (Parkay et al., 2014). Key points about curriculum standards are presented below.
Today, SBE ensures equity and excellence in public schools across the nation and gained extraordinary importance in 2011, as President Obama mentioned about the importance of high standards of students (Parkay et al., 2014). Education aims to prepare our kids for the future so they can compete in the global economy. If we want to win the future, we must ensure our kids have the necessary skills to succeed. We must invest in our education system to ensure our kids can access the finest resources and teachers available. We should also foster creativity and critical thinking skills to prepare our kids for future challenges. The SBE was also able to create new curriculums that will be used to measure students' learning based on the new performance and content standards. These new standards were developed to improve the education system nationwide. The various laws passed over the years, such as the No Child Left Behind Act and the ESEA, have helped develop the curriculum and the
standards. With the goals of teachers and students aligned, curriculum standards have been continuously updated. The laws have also made it possible to ensure that students are held to

specific criteria and that teachers have more resources to meet those standards. Additionally, the rules have provided more funding for schools, which has allowed them to invest in better resources and technology. This has helped improve the educational experience for students.
Common Core Standards
The CCSSI was established to create uniform standards for all fifty states. The CCSSI released a draft set of K-12 mathematics and English language arts standards in March 2010 for public comment. Many observers welcomed the release of the Common Core Standards. Although voluntary, the Obama Administration threatened to withhold federal funding from schools that didn't implement the measures. Providing a comprehensive view of the educational process and assisting students to succeed in the global economy are the program's goals. Following the release of the CCSSI, educators criticized it. They claimed no proof that the Common Core improved student achievement or led to a better curriculum. Moreover, they said there was no proof that this type of education would benefit all students (Parkay et al., 2014).
Content and Performance Standards
These documents, usually prepared by education agencies and school districts, typically refer to two kinds of standards. Performance and content standards are the two categories. As the
name implies, a content standard refers to the content or knowledge and skills students should acquire in various academic fields. Teachers must judge the quality of performance or proficiency required as part of performance standards. Students are also assisted in meeting their 21st-century needs in addition to these categories. The competencies include global insight, financial and economic knowledge, business, and entrepreneurial skills, civic skills, health literacy, and environmental awareness (Parkay et al., 2014).

Curriculum leadership ensures that textbooks and curricula align with state and national curriculum frameworks and standards. Curriculum alignment is divided into horizontal and vertical. The former involves teachers coordinating instruction across various disciplines and examining their school's curriculum to ensure coherent content and pedagogy. Vertical alignment
ensures that curricula are aligned with the various grade levels, allowing students to experience more complex programs as they advance through the grades (Parkay et al., 2014).
No Child Left Behind
The federal government has implemented laws and regulations to improve schools' and students' educational standards. A good example is the No Child Left Behind Act, signed into law by President George H.W. Bush in 2002. The law requires schools and students to set goals and progress toward them annually. In addition, failing to meet these goals can lead to penalties. The Obama Administration attempted to change NCLB in 2010. Despite these efforts, the testing
component of the law did not improve (Parkay et al., 2014).
Students and Curriculum Development
Students should also know the curriculum's various purposes and their teachers' goals. The development of their own curriculum goals can help them achieve this. Having a variety of teaching models that complement the learning process can help teachers reach their goals (Parkay et al., 2014).
Who Should Plan the Curriculum?
A curriculum committee composed of various groups can help improve curriculum development. These include scholars, teachers, parents, students, and citizens. Scholars can provide valuable advice on the teaching process and suggest ways to implement the curriculum.

Citizens and parents must be involved in the curriculum's development to change their behavior, attitudes, and beliefs. In a pluralistic society, educators and curriculum leaders should work with parents and other citizens to set educational goals for specific schools or districts.
The students are the most untapped resource when it comes to curriculum planning. They
can provide valuable feedback and insight regarding the current curriculum's shortcomings and strengths. According to studies, students are more likely to improve their learning if they participate in planning. As professional educators, our role grows as we work with students, scholars, parents, and others. Our responsibility is to help develop a plan and structure the discussions. We also need to gather various contributions and come up with a strategy (Parkay et
al., 2014).
Personal Analysis and Critique Paragraph Assessment of curriculum implementation effectiveness and the learning of students depends on alignment between curriculum standards and classroom instruction practices (Yang, 2023). Students' learning styles vary. To accommodate their unique needs, teachers need to adapt
the curriculum. In addition to delivering the curriculum, the teacher also has a vital role in ensuring learning continues (Parkay et al, 2014). As stated above, some of the curriculum's key points were already in place when my children started school.
When my children were in elementary school, I noticed the curriculum and the standards in the school district changing over time making it a challenge for me to help my children to navigate through all the changes. The schools in Charles County Maryland were focused on teaching and learning. I found myself having to get more engaged, wondering if my children were learning the basics needed for survival in our society. instruction that are rigorous and complex are used to accomplish this. In addition to being taught in various ways, students are also taught using conceptual and foundational knowledge. To ensure student success, we provide the necessary support and skills. Creating an engaging and stimulating learning environment was the goal of a classroom. Students collaborate with others and participate in significant discussions. Activities and assignments in these settings encourage creativity and expression. As they develop their skills, they apply their knowledge to more independent tasks to improve their mastery (Parkay et al., 2014).
Personal and Practical Application
Students need to know their teachers' goals for their schools and the curriculum they are working on. Teachers should communicate their goals and expectations to their students so that they can understand the purpose of the curriculum and its goals. Experienced teachers have developed various effective teaching methods to reach these goals. It is essential for learners and teachers to understand each other's objectives for successful learning experiences. Student-
teacher planning can help accomplish this. By using assessments tailored to the student's individual needs, schools can ensure that they are accurately measuring their academic progress and promoting a higher level of learning (Parkay et al., 2014). Although there is no single-size-fits-all method for curriculum development, a systematic
approach can help keep the process organized. Before designing a curriculum, I recommend identifying the students' needs, developing learning objectives, and reviewing potential obstacles.
I suggest incorporating technology into the curriculum. The belief that it can improve student learning has led to numerous governments establishing programs encouraging technology in schools (
Hew & Brush, 2007). Furthermore, standards can enhance achievement. Raising standards is critical to improving education, but focusing on raising standards diverts attention

from more meaningful reforms. It is crucial to balance the importance of an effective curriculum with the importance of education.
Conclusion
One of the most critical factors a school or district considers when developing its curriculum is its goals and objectives. This is because many teachers develop programs geared toward their students' needs. Having a variety of models that complement teacher planning is also vital to ensure curriculum effectiveness. As such, schools and districts must choose a curriculum that aligns with their existing goals and objectives. In addition, they need to provide teachers with the support they need to effectively deliver the curriculum (Parkay et al., 2014).
