1.
Define the word privacy.
Privacy is the means to being able to protect one’s identity and personal information. It is
controlling what others can access in terms of data. 2.
Are you aware that many internet sites record your activity?
Yes. Most applications and social media often keep track of what you post, like, and share. Even when you first download an app off of your phone, when you open it, it asks whether you want the app to track your information or not. 3.
How concerned are you about security on the internet? The biggest concern for security would be data privacy on apps and with any transfer of funds. Most people, including myself, use online banking and we hope that the security for each is as protective as possible. There are certain companies or applications that gather information on users and sell that information to third parties to make money. 4.
Do you consider sites recording your internet activity WITH your knowledge to be a violation of privacy? I do not believe it is a violation of privacy due to the fact that users must accept or deny it
as soon as they use that site. Most people should be aware that every site takes into account what actions are made and any information that is submitted can be traced back at any given point in time. Most of the time, these sites typically just have the most basic of information so I don't find it too alarming when they have the information 5.
Do you consider sites recording your internet activity WITHOUT your knowledge to be a violation of privacy?
I do consider any recording without consent to be a violation of privacy only due to the fact that there was no acknowledgment and the user is not in control of this. If they access
a site that is sketchy and that site steals their information, then they should have known better.
6.
Are you concerned about your personal information being transmitted over the internet?
Yes, because I worry about my personal information online being accessed by unauthorized people and being misused. 7.
Do you believe that the federal government should implement laws dealing with how
companies can use your personal information? Please explain by listing two things that should be included in the law.
Yes, I think the government should implement laws dealing with how companies can use your information. I think there should be a law where companies have to be transparent about how they collect, use, and share personal information, but they would also have to get consent from the user before collecting their information. Another law I think they should have is that companies should be required to have certain security measures before collecting information, so that both the user and company know that there are security measures in place in case a data breach were to occur. 8.
Who do you believe should be held responsible if your personal information can be found on the internet? I believe I should be held accountable for any information that is found on the internet because I chose to believe that information would be safe and secure. But if the data is being transmitted from different sources then it is on the app/software.
