Certificates help protect from insecure or malicious websites but are often not noticed by regular computer users. As a security minded professional though, you must understand what information is included in a certificate and how they protect our connections. You may need to create certificates or troubleshoot issues with them. Understanding what makes up a certificate will help with these tasks. Getting the details from a web certificate is easy. Every browser gives you
the ability to open and view a certificate from a website. The process is a little different for each one, so you can use this guide
to determine how to use your preferred browser.
Instructions
Getting information from a certificate
Browse to your favorite secure website (must use https). View the certificate for the web site by clicking on the “lock” icon on your browser address bar. Go through the details tab and answer the following questions (you may use screenshots when applicable): Ohio Cyber Range Institute, University of Cincinnati
