What types of e-business (such as B2C, B2B) would you deploy at The Fullerton Cafe?
The types of e-business our staff at Mindful Sips would focus on would mainly be
business-to-customer (B2C). Due to our proximity to two different colleges, Cal State
Fullerton and Fullerton College, a high school, and a train station, it would be imperative
to allow our customers the option to order ahead through our website so that by the time
they come to our store they can pick up their food items and be on their way. In addition,
by implementing an e-business B2C model, customers can employ minimal contact with
other individuals should they prefer to. On top of this, a B2B e-business model would
also allow us to keep up with the maintenance of our technology. However, we wish to
stay more in-person in ordering ingredients for our food items to ensure that what we
receive is of good quality before they reach the store.
How can an e-business project support your business strategy?
An e-business project can support Mindful Sip’s business strategy by reducing costs in
specific areas due to its efficiency. For example, adopting an e-business through business-
to-consumer would happen by allowing customers to order ahead of time online. They
would be able to customize their orders and pay online. This will create a quick visit with
no hassle for the customer since ordering ahead allows those with busy lifestyles to grab
and go at Mindful Sips. B2C can also enhance customer satisfaction, which will likely
increase customer returns. Moreover, B2C projects can improve brand awareness and
brand loyalty. Because of the specialty support and service, Mindful Sip has a high
chance of getting recommendations and visits, leading to higher revenue.
B2B would also play an essential role at Mindful Sips to help keep our online ordering
and other online transactions up to date. Since our location will offer Wi-Fi, B2B will
ease the maintenance of our setup by having automatic updates to keep everything
running smoothly. Online ordering for our inventory can also be implemented for the
most common items ordered, while some ingredients can be ordered in person, which
will be more efficient for the most frequently bought items. Both B2C and B2B e-
business will bring efficiency to Mindful Sips to focus on other aspects of the business.
What types of hardware and software do you need to build your e-business website?
Hardware: Mindful Sip considers using a reliable laptop such as Samsung or MacBook to
control and access all the information an e-business might need. A web server and a
database server are primary in an e-business website. A Wi-Fi router, a Wi-Fi extender for
large space, and a network server are required. For customers to order online, we need a
label printer. Besides the label printer, a thermal printer for receipt is required. With B2C
purpose, Mindful Sip can set up a self-ordering kiosk to reduce the waiting line.
Software: Mindful Sip needs to consider plenty of software for the e-business. First, a
Point of Sale (POS) system such as Squarespace, Toast Tab, or Clover is required.
Another software is the loyalty program for customers such as fivestars or another add-on
program of Clover. An excellent app for customers to order and track their loyalty points,
it can also help Mindful Sip announce customers as quickly as possible. An online
payment system for paying ahead if Mindful Sip receives online orders. Moreover,
Mindful Sip must protect business and customer information by investing in backup and
recovery tools. Lastly, it is a tool for email marketing and automation that strengthens the
B2C relationship. Mindful Sip will consider much more software to improve their e-
business website, but as mentioned above, it is the basis of an e-business.
What is the scope of the e-business project? What is the cost of the project? How much time do
you need to implement it? - Kyle & Fadi
The project scope will include implementing new software to allow our business to
manage transactions and allow customers to place orders online and pick them up in-
store. High-speed Wi-Fi will also be added to the store to facilitate the new technology
and make the coffee shop a place for students to study. Additionally, the scope will
include any new hardware required to use the latest software, such as POS systems and
Wi-Fi routers. The POS systems would take us the longest to implement because they are
brand new and need programming, so at most, two weeks would be required. However,
implementing the rest of our projects shouldn’t take more than an hour to configure to
our needs. On top of this, we would need to train our employees to understand how to use
our new technology and projects, therefore requiring another two weeks to cover all the
necessary details.
Cost of Project:
One-time Purchases:
MacBook - $1000
Wi-Fi Router - $80
Label Printer - $200
Counter Self-service kiosk - $700
Initial POS devices - $1300 to $1700
Monthly Purchases:
Web Server - $20/month
Database Server - $200/month
POS software - $130/month
Fivestar Program – $300/month
Email marketing and automation - $300/month
