Final Project Site Specific Safety Plan CM 2215 Samuel Mire and Nicholas Borne
Safety Plan: Inspections - All safety inspections for the roof replacement project will either be carried out by the employer or the roof inspection company. While the employer can appoint a competent person to inspect the roof with his/her safety committee, it is recommended to hire a professional roof inspection company to make sure that the surface is safe to work on. - Normally, the roof should be inspected by a professional roof inspector at least twice a year to check for damage or leaks. Since the roof is being replaced, it is recommended that the employer inspects the roof regularly throughout the replacement process to ensure that it is safe enough to work on. - While examining the roof, the inspector should write or type detailed notes documenting any damages or possible hazards the roof may have. The Inspector should also take plenty of pictures, so the rest of the construction crew can have a good idea of what types of problems they can encounter when working on it. Satellite imagery from above will give the owner a good overview of the entire replacement process. - A roof inspector will examine every component of the roof, including its structural support, the stability of the roofing material, and if there are any signs of damage throughout the ceiling. The Structural inspection examines the main components of the roof such as: - Cracked, splintered, or rotted rafters or trusses - Sagging ceilings
- Missing or damaged collar ties - Missing or damaged rafter ties - The material portion of the roof inspection will focus on the roofing materials, including shingles, metal plates, clay, or even slate shingles. It also includes checking the flashing underneath the roofing material for any signs of leaks, cracks, or pests.
