1) Describe various cloud database services provided by cloud computing vendors Amazon, Microsoft and Google. Identify their key characteristics and compare them in a tabular format. Amazon has Amazon Web Services (AWS) which is the largest cloud computing vendor in the world that provides multiple types of cloud database services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Aurora, and Amazon Redshift. Microsoft has Microsoft Azure which is also a popular cloud computing vendor that has similar services to Amazon and Google which are Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Database for MySQL, and Azure Database Migration Service. Google has Google Cloud Platform (GCP) which also has similar services such as Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, Cloud Firestore, and CloudBigTable. Cloud Vendor Database Service Key Characteristic AWS Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) Fully managed relational database service for MyAQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server. Auto backups, software patches, scales, and monitoring. Multi-AZ deployments and encryption Amazon DynamoDB Fully managed NoSQL database service with scalability, high availability, low latency, and automatic data replication across regions. Amazon Aurora High-performance managed relational database engine that is compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL. Amazon RedShift Fully managed petabyte-scale data warehouse service with fast query performance and automatic backups. Integrated with AWS analytics services. Azure Azure SQL Database Fully managed relational database service for SQL with automatic patching, backups and high availability. Support elastic pools, in- memory OLTP, and geo replication. Integrated with Azure Analytics Azure Cosmos DB Fully managed NoSQL database service with multiple APIs being supported. Automatic global distribution, low latency, and is consistent. Integrated with Azure Analytics Azure Database for MySQL Fully managed PostgreSQL database service that provides high scalability and availability Azure Synapse Analytics Cloud-based Analytics that combines big data and warehousing capabilities. Integrated with Azure Data Storage. GCP Cloud SQL Fully managed relational database service for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL. Automatic backups, patches and scaling. Support for
replicas, recovery and encryption. Cloud Spanner Fully managed horizontally scaled relational database service with strong consistency, global distribution and high availability. Support for SQL queries and automatic sharing. Cloud Firestone Fully managed NoSQL document database service with real-time data synchronization, automatic scaling and indexing. Sutilatible Cloud BigTable Fully managed NoSQL database service that is optimized for low- latency, high workloads 2) Describe the relationships (identify the business rules) depicted in the Crow’s FootERD shown in Figure P2.17. Business Rules: a) Each theater can show more than one movie b) Each movie can be seen by more than one theater c) Each movie can receive many reviews d) Each review can only go towards one movie e) Each review can only be written by one reviewer f) Each reviewer can write many reviews 3) Create a Crow’s Foot ERD to include the following business rules for the ProdCo company: a) Each sales representative writes many invoices. b) Each invoice is written by one sales representative. c) Each sales representative is assigned to one department.
