EVALUATING MY LEARNING SKILLS
2
A learning experience that I recall as being beneficial and successful in was when I studied and passed the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. I was able to learn and apply basic network concepts and troubleshooting skills to work related issues. Further,
I learned how networks could be created, managed, and transmitted within different types of networks. Studying the CCNA also helped me develop a better understanding of the differences between a variety of different networking equipment and their roles within a network infrastructure. Technical skills gained, including: accessing switches, firewalls, and routers, were
used to resolve client issues at work. Networking terminology and further knowledge on how each equipment related to each other was helpful in finding solutions to client issues at hand.
In order to successfully learn and earn my CCNA certification, I had to choose to be more dedicated than ever. I also had to remember to keep a positive mindset regardless of what negativity or discouragement I was feeling that day. For me, setting a test date and a day to start studying was probably the hardest part of the process. However, after having a goal set, making a
plan, and choosing to be dedicated and devoted to my plan, I was well rewarded at the end. In the
beginning of my plan, made sure to set time aside to conduct some research and purchase reliable resources and study material I could use to be successful. During this time, I asked for suggestions and advice from those around me who had already earned their CCNA certification to see what they felt was the most beneficial study material. Being able to ask questions about networking and learn from people who spoke from experience was the most helpful during my process of earning my certification. My plan included a scheduled time of at least 1-2 hours after work to study for my exam as well as attend weekly group study sessions. Closer to my test date,
I also scheduled and took multiple practice exams to gauge where my strengths and weaknesses. This way I could spend more allocated time for areas of improvement before my real exam.
