Hi Matthew
As a fellow Gen Xer, I also got started with computers in school early on. Although I did elementary schooling in one state when I moved to high school, many fellow students I met in my freshman coding class had never used a computer until then. Now, most kids start using technology with their parent's phones as soon as they can grab them. You mentioned Domain Name System (DNS) and the dangers that can occur with them. It is even worse when students use personal devices in the classroom without any protection that school devices try to provide. Educating students on the dangers of the internet is essential, but more so is teaching them how to recognize when something is amiss. Omar et al. (2021) developed and tested a malware awareness program using gamification. Although a small study, it showed positive results among
the college students who tried it. Protection of student's personal information and location is crucial, and implementing internet safety into their education starting as soon as technology begins to be used in school, I believe, would help combat some of, as you called them, bad actors. Students now come in with the knowledge of how to utilize the tools but not always how to protect themselves. References

Artificial intelligence (AI) applications such as Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) usage in high school are probably more significant than teachers think. Kids learn quickly, and a technology app that helps them write papers and do homework spreads like wildfire. I agree with your statement that teachers need more instruction on AI. The use of AI is rampant in higher education. The departments in my institution frequently have meetings regarding apps that can recognize AI written responses and educate professors on how to develop
questions that are difficult for AI to respond to. Although AI can be helpful, it can also affect assessments that professors depend on for learning goals and outcomes. , many professors have also embraced ChatGPT and have incorporated its use in the classroom to aid in the development
of course materials and allow students to use it to get information for in-class discussions and
assignments (Duha, 2023). Like all new technology, the students will probably know more than the teachers for a while. ChatGPT and other platform usage can provide a teachable moment for integrity and honesty. As Proverbs 11:3 states, "
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them” (
New International Version, 1984/1973, Proverbs 11:3). I recall Google causing this same fear when it first became mainstream among students. Duha, M. S. (2023). Chatgpt in education: An opportunity or a challenge for the future? TechTrends
