2 Information Silos, The Cloud, and ERP Systems Introduction Preserving and processing data daily, businesses have to pay attention and understand management information systems to be able to have a competitive advantage. Information systems need to assist the firm in coming up with fresh responses as it adjusts to shifting industry and governmental rules, foresees risks from competitors, and assesses partnerships. Hopefully, this paper will give Colony Nursery and Landscaping some ideas and information on silos, clouds and ERP Systems. It also emphasizes how the organization under examination may need to reengineer its business processes in order to install an ERP system. Information Silos Information silo is an isolated information system not easily capable of exchanging information with other information systems. It is difficult for information silos to be able to communicate with other systems because silos tend to be hard to work with. An example of an information silo can be an electronic system for keeping up with our work orders in the highway department. When we switched over systems last year, our new system didn’t work together with our old system, and it created a problem. Because we were not able to go back and look at past work orders and see what work we had done to certain roads. Problems with Information Silos Information silos are created when workers cannot share information back and forth within a company or department. Information silos can lead to several problems for a business. Some employees and departments rely on sharing with each other, but when that is not possible it can make things difficult. Information silos are responsible for information redundancy and job

3 role duplication. These types of silos can cause organizations to have diverging and incompatible work processes and systems, which can increase costs and decrease efficiency. Organizations may be strategically positioned to have their overall success brought about by a lack of synergy brought on by fragmented information. Disgruntled employees might also contribute to high turnover rates. Because decision-making will worsen due to the difficulty of accessing information (Chen, 2019). Colony Nursery and Landscaping will incur increased costs as a result of duplicate data, fragmented systems, a lack of information, and inefficiencies. Why organizations are moving to the cloud. Cloud computing is becoming a common practice among businesses. Anything can be delivered at any time through the cloud. A collection of hardware, networks, storage, and interfaces together known as the "cloud" make it possible to supply computing as a service over the internet. This has led a lot of businesses to believe that the cloud is the ideal platform for resolving client problems. It has become clear that data posted online cannot be effectively utilized if it is kept in an information silo with just the owner having access. The cloud can make a department work more efficiently (Hurwitz et al., 2010). Would cloud-based solve the ERP information silo problem for Colony Nursery and Landscaping. Cloud services can help Colony Nursery and Landscape Company become more productive and efficient. The cloud can process and store more so therefore it can make things move faster. By switching to the cloud, it will work together with the award system. By making the change to the cloud, everything will be more effective and work well together.
