The Analysis Process
Karen, a representative from the Skyesburg mayor's office asked Daniel, a conflict mediator, to help
resolve a large-scale, long-term dispute in a local neighborhood. "The dispute revolves around
plans to extend the city's light rail system into the neighborhood," explained Karen. "Some residents
support the expansions, while others are strongly opposed."
"How many people are involved?" asked Daniel. "And how long has it been going on?"
"I don't have any solid numbers for you," Karen responded, looking at her notes. "It has been going
on for months, though, and the community meetings on the issue attract quite a crowd."
Daniel said, “Okay, I’m going to ask you for some information about the situation— contact numbers
and so on. Then I’ll start talking with people in the neighborhood to see who we need to work with
and what the history of the situation looks like. It might be a while before we can pull together a
meeting.”
Daniel suggested that he wants to perform a conflict analysis of the situation. Select the true
