Nevertheless, law enforcement officers still require a fundamental grasp of immigration law and policy. Local courts adhere to city policies concerning undocumented immigrants. Consequently, courts in sanctuary cities might release non-violent undocumented individuals without informing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  Describe how the U.S. law enforcement and court systems function together . The American law enforcement and court systems collaborate, each carrying out vital roles within the criminal justice framework. Law enforcement endeavors to thwart crime and apprehend lawbreakers. Meanwhile, the court system penalizes offenders through fines, probation, and/or imprisonment.  Include at least one dysfunction or challenge area. Warrants and evidence, or the absence of them, can pose significant challenges. If a law enforcement officer arrests someone suspected of being an undocumented immigrant without any evidence or warrant, the courts would not be able to press charges against that person. According to Senate Bill 4, law enforcement officers had to follow federal immigration detainers, meaning they have to honor requests from agencies like ICE to detain individuals suspected of being undocumented immigrants. Some officials in law enforcement were concerned that this law made their jobs more difficult by causing uncertainty and anxiety among immigrant communities. They feared this could discourage cooperation with law enforcement in reporting crimes. Some even supported the law, which argues the fact that it helped with enforcing immigration regulations and helped public safety by removing potentially risky individuals from the neighborhoods. 2. The US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit is a federal court responsible for reviewing cases from lower federal district courts in the area, mainly for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Cases before this court may involve different constitutional matters, like the division of powers within the branches of government, which guarantees fair legal procedures, equal treatment under the law, and determines the extent of government authority. These constitutional issues are very important to the operation of the US legal system. 3. Describe how the U.S. law enforcement and court systems relate to sanctuary cities using information from the resources provided. How did they respond to shared issues? What is at least one challenge area for the police in relationship to holding detainees?
