ABA Model Rules Worldview
For this assignment I must choose what I believe to be are the two most important American Bar Association Rules of Professional Conduct, and then explain my basis for these selections and the ethical policies that form the foundation of the selected rule, the sources of those policies, and how those policies can be interpreted through the lens of scripture.
ABA Model Rule 1.6
The first ABA Model Rule of Professional Conduct I have chosen to be the most important rule is Rule 1.6: Confidentiality of Information.

I chose this rule because when a lawyer follows these rules, he or she is facilitating a culture of trust and is showing the client that
they can trust the lawyer to conduct their representation in a manner that exemplifies a good moral and ethical character. Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship and is a pivotal component of the lawyer-client relationship. The ethical policies that form ABA Model Rule 1.6 are based on the ideology that a “Lawyers' conduct is governed not only by "individual conscience [and] vaguely articulated 'traditions of the profession,"' but also by regulations, or "positive law," which provide ethical guidelines with which lawyers must comply.”

Essentially, a lawyer is led by his or her conscience and the rules and regulations of law, and this provides both an assurance that an attorney will not break ABA Rule 1.6, and a deterrent for an attorney that would consider behaving unethically. God has given us many scriptures to refer to regarding the rules set forth in ABA Rule 1.6. The book of Matthew covers lying and other acts of dishonesty, “But the things that come 1
