How does discourse relate to the language development of English learners?
When I think about discourse, in the educational context and as a teacher in
the educational field, it involves many tools and more for students who speak English. Discourse is involved
every day in our teaching practice with students, from motivating them to being people, but three that stand out
mainly in my opinion. They are the context where the language will be returned, the language we will be
promoting, and the practice and interaction we have every day with students.
What are 2 or 3 student engagement best practices that are effective for English learners?
Cultivate relationships and collaboration.
One of the most motivating ways to learn a language is through collaboration and communication with other
students. This helps students to be motivated and confident, allowing them to practice their communication
skills. I like this strategy because together We can help each other through having the opportunity to
collaborate.
2 Utilizing visuals
Use visuals and add images in daily activities and work. and more for primary school students, in my case I
teach first grade and use visual material with the students. In each activity, use vocabulary words with images
that can be used in various ways. It is an excellent activity to develop your language and vocabulary with the
use of visual elements.
3 Incorporate Language Skills Throughout the Curriculum
ELL students will benefit from explicit language instruction. including language skills throughout the
curriculum. By incorporating these skills into all lessons, they become exposed to the language. This will have
a positive impact on student learning. This is an opportunity to hear and visualize words at all times. while
they work and learn.
How can a teacher begin and continue to encourage student engagement throughout a lesson?
It is super important that as a teacher you know perfectly the interests of your students, their needs that they
have, and how they learn. implement innovative strategies and use technology. Personally, these are the points
that I use the most when making my lesson plans, including structure, organization and always being prepared
for adaptability and flexibility. because everything changes and can be better

How does this topic link to the College’s Conceptual Framework and the framework’s
philosophical relationship to effective teacher preparation?
Analyzing our conceptual framework. It makes me reflect and intertwine what I am putting into practice.
having the opportunity to collaborate with more teachers, how to maintain interest in teaching practice, and
improve strategies by being transversal. always working on inclusion since I am a bilingual teacher implies a
lot of diversity.
