Demographics are often thought of the race, gender, and ethnicity of a target audience. However, demographics include more than those elements and can affect the success of an organization, especially one that is going through change.  Administrative managers , or any  manager  looking to hire or improve their organizational culture, should look at demographics before making decisions on how to improve their organization.  Watch “Organizational Demographics” for an explanation of which demographics to consider in your own organization. Answer the following questions while considering the forces in the global environment: What might some of the implications of demographic forces be for the industry you work in? What are the advantages and disadvantages of technological change? How can information technology lead to beneficial changes within the workplace?  Response Requirements By  Thursday , respond to the prompt above in a minimum of 175 words. By  Monday , post a total of 3 substantive responses over 2 separate days for full participation. This includes your initial post and 2 replies to classmates or your faculty member. I work in the Pharmacy Department of an inpatient hospital, and an implication of demographic forces that my industry of work encounters is a gender imbalance in the workforce. We have more female employees in the Pharmacy than male employees. Due to this gender imbalance, we often have to deal with staff shortages due to maternity and sick leaves to care for family matters. As a result, we have to have a handful of per diem employees to serve as a backup when these situations occur. The advantage of technological change in my current department is that it keeps us organized, clutter-free, and efficient when performing our daily tasks. Since most of my coworkers are between the ages of 30 to 50, we are very capable of adapting to new system upgrades and implementations. We even use an automated medication carousel to help store and track the accuracy of the medications we dispense to patients in-house. The disadvantage of technological change in my current industry is that we rely on technology so much daily that once we encounter any system downtime on any computer programs we use, we must resort to paper documentation. We dispense medications to hundreds of patients daily; paper documentation will make it challenging to keep track of and organize everything neatly. Finding extra storage space to keep all these paper documents would also take much work. Suppose our electronic compounding software breaks down, it will take us more time to compound a mixture that may typically only take us five minutes to complete (i.e., technicians will have to write out
all the calculations and steps on paper and then give to the pharmacists to double check the calculations before mixing). Information technology can lead to beneficial changes within the workplace by improving productivity and efficiency. In the case of my industry of work, information technology also helped reduce a lot of paper waste by keeping patient records electronically.
