Describe two different conflict situations that you are familiar with or have experienced. Explain various conflict-management techniques that are used by police managers to manage conflict. Which techniques used by police managers could have been used in the two examples that you gave? Why would those techniques have been effective? n every job or career conflicts are going to happen. It is what comes with the job or career in any person’s life. Not every job or career is going to be one hundred percent all put together. With every job I have experienced I have noticed that conflicts do in fact happen. One I would have to say when I was working at Bath and body works. A lady had come in asking for help. I assisted her to the best of my ability. I didn’t know where the product was she was looking for and I had asked another worker for help since I was new. The lady then told me if you didn’t know where something was then you shouldn't have helped me at all. I then said sorry and continued on with my work. Another conflict that I have experienced is being in an internship and the supervisor who was giving me work and telling me what to do. He would show up late or not notify me of his whereabouts and I would sit there with no work. This led me to not get as much experience as I thought I would. As a supervisor he should have given me the correct time and work ethnic as a supervisor. This made me not want to continue on with the internship and made me think negatively about another internship. When conflict happens there are many ways for techniques to be put in place to help manage the conflict. According to The University of San Diego states, “ social scientists have determined that most people respond to conflict in one of the five ways; avoidance, accommodation, aggression, compromise, and collaboration.” (University of San Diego, 2023). Each of these ways of techniques can benefit a police manager to solve a conflict. Also, a manager should be able to get the proper training to help resolve a conflict. They are managers for a reason when it comes to conflict especially in a workforce like this. Officers deal with a lot of issues on a daily basis and should be helped in the correct way by a manager. The two techniques based on my experiences with conflict I could have easily used many of my examples that I have given. I would have to say that in my first conflict I could have used compromise. And I say compromise because you want to be able to understand the customer because they are the ones correct. You want to be able to come to an agreement as a worker and this is where I helped her by getting help from my coworker. And for my second conflict I would have used compromise or accommodation. Any of these would have worked to find an agreement or a way to figure out how to get me the correct work. A lot of the times I was being avoided by this supervisor which made me look bad for not doing any work. And it made him look bad by being an upper division worker not providing me the work to do the internship for the experience. Depending on each person's conflict everyone would have different ways of figuring out a solution or a technique to the conflict.
