What Is Human Resource Management? Many students come into this class believing that human resource management is only about hiring and firing employees. After reading the first chapter of your textbook: Define what you think it means for an organization to manage its human resources. How does effective human resource management contribute to a company's success? Support your response with information from the textbook or other peer-reviewed or scholarly resources. An organization that is managing their human resources is one that is ensuring employees are hired based on their ability to help the organization achieve its goals, ensuring training is provided to enable employees to learn job-related knowledge, skills and behavior, providing development and performance management to ensure the employees’ activities and outputs match the organizational goals (Noe et al., 2021). Effectively managing human resources requires skill and a high-level of interpersonal skills. A misstep by an organization in managing human resources can lead to high attrition. This will ultimately lead to financial loss and negatively impact the organization. There are costs directly associated with onboarding employees. If an employee leaves prematurely, the organization will have to reinvest in recruiting and training a new employee. This cycle will continue if human resources are not being managed effectively. Effective human resource management directly contributes to a company’s success. Employees are a source of the company’s success or failure, therefore through effective human resource management, a company can improve their success rate. “Effective management of human resources can form the foundation of a high-performance work system” (Noe et al., 2021, p.6). Employees that do not feel valued in their
roles will face challenges with producing the highest quality outputs in the most efficient manner. This will directly impact the company’s success. References Noe, R., Hollenbeck, J., Gerhart, B., & Wright, P. (2021). Fundamentals of human resource management (9th ed.). McGraw-Hill Education.
