1.Chapter 4--Jack Welch made the comment that “If you don’t have a competitive advantage, don’t compete.” If we judge this statement to be true, what should an organization wanting to enter a market where they do not yet have a competitive advantage be a way to create success without an initial competitive advantage? Should they abide by Welch’s comment? Organizations can do the following: 1. Be Innovative by creating a unique products or services 2. Focus on customers by offering excellent services to build loyalty 3. Improve Operations by cutting cost and working more efficiently 4. Form a partnership with other companies to gain strength By doing those things a company could start without any competitive advantage and still find success in the market. 2. Chapter 5--Assume you are hired as a consultant for Cinnabon. You are asked to consider a SWOT model to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Using the Course Outcome 4.1 decide and objectively recommend next steps for Cinnabon To conduct and create a brief SWOT analysis for Cinnabon, I would focus on its Strengths and Weaknesses. Strengths - Brand recognition on a worldwide scale - Affordable - Placed in high trafficked areas (malls, airports, and outlets) Weaknesses - Limited convenience were customers have to go in, unlike Krispy Kreme who utilizes a drive through - Smaller than its other competitors like Auntie Anns and Nothing Bundt Cakes - Little market Threats - Competition not only from small competitors but large ones as well - Health Concerns - Supply Chain disruptions When presented with this analysis, I would recommend that Cinnabon look into creating less calorie and possibly sugar free alternatives. This would allow them to stay in line with the health concerns of customers. While also looking into alternative locations. Depending on foot traffic in malls has the
potential to kill a business, mostly because customers love convenience. Finding a location that allows for a drive-through offers this to their customers. References Cinnabon. (n.d.).
