Dziak (2022) explains what organizational theories are, where they began, and how they evolve. From its
onset organizational theory was intended to be about the how the organization operates and how to make changes to maintain operations. As it evolved, it began to encompass how to keep employees motivated, how to motivate them to reduce turnover, in turn promoting organizational longevity. Organizational theories are continually evolving, creating more theories like systems theory and chaos theory. The essay, "Organizational Time: Modern, Symbolic, and Postmodern Reflection," by John Hassard delves into the concept of time through the lens of organizational leaders. The essay discusses the influences of social, cultural, and technological factors. The paper also looked at some time metaphors and tropes that were related to work and organizations. and how time is perceived and managed differently across modern, symbolic, and postmodern organizational theories (Hassard, 2022).
Both articles share the idea that organizations should be viewed as living systems which have interconnected workings, which can be complex. As, a leader the biggest change I would make within my
organization would be in scheduling and schedules. I have heard numerous employees discussing wanting to work from home but not all the time and many different conversations like this. I would investigate hybrid scheduling, customizing hours, like four ten hour shifts vs the traditional five-day work weeks. I think this is an area that could motivate employees and decrease turnaround.
