ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OUTLINE

Demographics
Southwest Airlines (SWA) has been committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for quite some time now. In fact, it is almost impossible for the company to succeed or hold any type of competitive edge in today’s market without being committed to (DEI). SWA’s “Golden Rule” of treating others as you would like to be treated has helped to guide the company over the years to continue to search for ideas, opportunities, and employee programs to better reflect the many diverse locations that
it serves.
Current Employee Demographics
Today Southwest Airlines has over 58,803 employees. 10% of those employees are management teams led by Black or African American employees. 15% of SWA management teams are Hispanic or Latino, while 66% are led by White or Caucasian managers. 27% of the SWA executive team is made up of female employees, and 73% male. (SWA Co., 2023)
46% of SWA’s 58,803 employees are women, while 54% are men. The most common ethnicity at SWA is White/Caucasian at 56%. 20% percent of the company is made up of Hispanic/Latino employees (most common minority), 12% are Black/African American employees, 8.9% are Asian, and 4.0% ae unknown. The average SWA employee earns $41, 081.00 per year, and the average retention rate in years is 5.6. Spanish is the most common language spoken at SWA at 62.1%, and the majority (64.6%) of SWA employees affiliate with the Republican Party. The highest average age category is between 20-30 years. (SWA Co., 2023)
Southwest Airlines Company’s Recent Changes
Like most of its competitors, SWA has taken some heavy blows from the loss of pilots. During the Covid-19 Pandemic most airlines’ demands were driven to zero, so some organizations shed staff to save money. SWA, however, did not lay off any pilots or other employees, but the company did lose thousands of its seasoned pilots to early retirement. (Kline, 2023) The loss of pilots has left most
