Week 1 – Ch2 Ch3 Homework Assignment
About Ch.2
Part of any organization’s strategy includes both a mission and a vision. Describe the differences between a mission and a vision.
The vision statement describes where the organization wants to be in the future, while the mission statement outlines what the organization must do now to achieve that vision. The vision and mission statements must work together, but the mission statement is more specific.
Share a mission and a vision from an organization you are familiar with. In your opinion, are the mission and vision statement from the organization adequately to embody the organization’s strategy?
Since I work at Khans Grill as an Accountant, I feel that I get to see a lot. Our company’s vision is that they want to make Khans Grill a nationwide company and not only a local Rio Grande Valley Restaurant. The mission is that we have been expanding slowly by adding one restaurant at a time. Just recently we got a new loan that is going to assist us in getting one more restaurant in the Rio Grande Valley. Choose an organization you are familiar with. Develop a comprehensive list of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats for the organization. Develop a plan to address threats and to take advantage of opportunities.
Toyota
Strengths – Brand Value
-
Market leadership
-
Known to have one of the most reliable cars
Weaknesses – Ineffective marketing
-
Overdependence on suppliers
-
Poor marketing of ecofriendly cars
Opportunities
-
Toyota has recently had more opportunities to showcase energy powered cars. -
Because of how advanced AI is right now, Toyota should be taking full advantage over this, since it might be able to help with their marketing. Threats
-
COVID – 19 pandemic
-
Technology race
-
Competition
If I worked for Toyota I would make sure to address the threats to my team and make sure we could get ahead of it before other companies beat us to it. I would also create a great marketing team that would be able to take advantage of opportunities. For example, when a new electric car
releases, we need to get to it and start publishing our article about our electric cars and why they are better than the competition. About Ch.3
In a company’s recent hiring, there were 50 men applicants
,
and 10 of them were selected. Meanwhile, there were 75 women applications, and 15 of them were selected. Is the 4/5ths rule met? Why?
10/50 = 0.2
15/75= 0.2
Since both rates are the same, the selection process is fair in terms of gender representation.

Question
Rollin King and Herb Kelleher started Southwest Airlines in 1971 with this idea: if they could take airline passengers where they want to go, on time, at the lowest possible price, and have a good time while doing it, people would love to fly their airline.
