Quantitative Analysis for Business MGT 2255 Summer ES Instructor : Li Ding, PhD Office Hours : Every Wednesday 10-11 AM via Zoom or by appointment (If nobody shows up within 20 minutes, I will be leaving the session) Zoom link : https://gatech.zoom.us/j/4306883482 E-mail : li.ding@scheller.gatech.edu (try not to use Canvas messages) Course Description MGT 2255 is a course focused on the decision-making processes and strategies of businesses. In the course, we will look at how businesses may employ quantitative concepts and techniques in their decisions, to optimize outcomes. Software tools such as Microsoft Excel will be used extensively throughout the semester during the class discussions, cases, and assignments. We will apply quantitative-analytical skills to a wide range of areas such as Supply Chain and Operations Management, Information Technology Management, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, and Strategy. The material is approached from a managerial rather than technical perspective with a focus on how to apply decision technology and how to interpret the results for guiding management action. This is not a course in mathematics. The focus is on the basic structure and logic of the models, not on their mathematical details and proofs. After successful completion of this course students will be able to: Determine the relationship between two or more variables using a regression model and apply the information gathered from the model to real world problems. Formulate and solve LP model for variety of real-world problems. Optimize project scheduling – by, for example, using the Critical Path Method. Apply Bayesian theory to create the best decision strategy. Categorize and analyze queuing situations in the manufacturing and service contexts. Textbook and Course Materials Customized book: “Quantitative Analysis for Business” published by Pearson, 2nd edition. ISBN: 0135318203. You will be using two online homework systems/study tools: MyLabOperationsManagment (MyLabOM) and MyLabStatistics (MyLabStat). We will use only the e-book version of the textbook for this class. To get the e-book version of our textbook, which is embedded in MyLabOM, follow the registration instructions document posted on Canvas. You will need either a credit card or an access code. You may purchase the access code at the bookstore (for example, if you have a scholarship). However, the instant access (using your credit card) when you register is less expensive than purchasing the access code in the bookstore. 1
MyLabOM:  MyLabOM is an electronic homework and study platform from Pearson (the publisher of our customized e-book). We are going to use MyLabOM for homework 3,4,5,6,7,8 and test 2, test 3 and final test. Again, to gain access to MyLabOM please refer to the two options outlined above. MyLabStat.  MyLabStat is another electronic platform from Pearson. MyLabStat will be used for homework 1, 2 and test 1. You will be provided with a free access code for MyLabStat. The registration instructions for MyLabStat and MyLabOM are also posted on Canvas/Modules.
