ABS 415 WK 4 DIS 1 Diversity encompasses all the different ways that individuals are different, such as age, race, marital status, physical ability, financial situation, and manner of life. According to Daft (2008), modern businesses are adopting a definition that is far more inclusive and takes into account the variables that affect how individuals approach their job, engage with one another, find fulfillment in their work, and define who they are at work. Leaders of the future must develop the ability to interact with those who hold various beliefs and viewpoints. Because managing and leading will need to be done electronically, multi-cultural groups are more crucial for executives in a firm. While maintaining an emphasis on shared objectives and ideals, they must be able to handle the tension brought about by diversity and divergent viewpoints. Leaders need to be aware of the various legal, political, gender, and religious systems found in many nations and areas. Although meeting demands from around the world will be extremely difficult, executives who can effectively lead different teams can form alliances, partnerships, and mergers, and transform the way business is done in the modern world (Brusman, May 26, 2008). Today's CEOs must possess cultural intelligence as a critical competency in order to thrive in the global economic world. Building awareness makes leaders more receptive to information, helps them learn new skills, comprehend the cultural traits of their followers and their expectations, helps them adapt and communicate to attitudes and behaviors when conflict arises, is efficient, meets deadlines, and educates them on the background and core values of their followers' culture (Campigotto, October 2008). It should be acceptable for staff members to voice their opinions without feeling as though they are unimportant or irrelevant. They ought to put inclusivity as another priority. To create a wide range of thoughts and opinions, bring people from varied backgrounds to meetings. High- performing teams and cultural values: Cultural values and attitudes play a major role in sustaining high-performance teams and promoting effective cooperation. Leaders must adopt a culturally sensitive mindset, appreciating and respecting differences in viewpoints, communication styles, and work ethics. Promote an inclusive environment where different cultural perspectives are respected, as this will stimulate the team's creativity and innovation. Establish policies and procedures that encourage open communication, mutual respect, and an appreciation of differing opinions. The study identified six characteristics or actions that set inclusive leaders apart: evident dedication, modesty, bias awareness, interpersonal curiosity, cultural acuity, and productive teamwork. Evident dedication: A counselor needs to be able to hold people accountable and prioritize inclusivity and diversity. Humility—A counselor ought to possess the humility and ability to
acknowledge their mistakes. You'll be able to receive personal information from a wide clientele who will feel comfortable sharing it with you. Understanding Your Own Bias: As a counselor, you need to learn how to manage your own bias. By acknowledging the possibility of bias, you may take steps to reduce it and provide the best care possible for everyone. Curiosity About Others: A counselor should make it a point to become more knowledgeable about cultures they may not be familiar with to develop treatment programs that appropriately combine culturally relevant techniques for a broad clientele. Another important skill for counselors working with a broad clientele is cultural intelligence. This involves paying attention to others' customs and making necessary adjustments. We may adapt and learn from situations where various cultures are present when we acknowledge that our culture is not the only one that exists. Effective Collaboration: In the majority of counseling settings, the counselor and client interact one-on-one, but occasionally we need guidance or assistance from others who may have experienced the same circumstance. Collaborating with other counselors from different backgrounds may generate fresh concepts for improving treatment procedures for both your client and numerous others.
