Decision Making Under Uncertainty – Biotechnical Engineering

DDHA 8800: Assignment Three
December 18, 2023
Health care administration leaders are encouraged to utilize evidence-
based practices, but not all do so. There are various reasons why some do not, including the fact that it does not always address practical management and it produces limited research when compared to other industry research. Also, research is not widely known or published. Therefore, there is not much
empirical evidence about the ideal health care management practices. Effective empirical evidence is not easy to find and implement. Sadly, health care managers are not all educated in or experienced in implementing
such evidence when it comes to the decision-making process. Also, not all organizations have the funding or the resources available to implement and assess applied research. The decision practices that managers utilize are widely different from those health care practitioners perform. Decisions from management are typically determined in large groups where negotiation occurs, while practitioners independently partake in the decision process. Ventron Engineering is a helicopter component responsible for producing safe products with the least cost. Fuzzy decision-making with the use of the precision decision tree helps assist in times of uncertainty. With variables unknown and uncertainties present, fuzzy decision allows one to implement interventions without knowing the outcome. Utilizing a decision tree will allow one to see the possible outcomes when various values are input. A company will be able to understand the expected costs for the project. Since the probabilities of the project are

THE PRISON SERVICE
The prison service provides an excellent example of the complexity of stakeholder requirements, to some extent reflecting the mixed task it faces.
Society requires the service to carry out potentially conflicting activities:
● to ensure that ‘dangerous criminals’ are locked up for the safety of society
● to provide a regime that will punish wrongdoers as a means of payment for their crimes
● to support inmates, providing counselling and training to rehabilitate and reform them, to reduce the likelihood of re- offending.
The principal stakeholders and their requirements are as follows:
● Government ministers with responsibility for the prison service will be concerned to fulfil manifesto promises while meeting spending targets. At the same time they will be concerned about stories of prisoner escapes or drug abuse that may be damaging to their personal reputation, possibly forcing their resignation.
● Prison governors will seek to provide an appropriate…

Can I receive assistance with the below two questions, please
PART A: Several years ago, Hurricane Gilbert destroyed thousands of acres of banana in Jamaica. Farmers whose crops were destroyed by the hurricane were much worse off, but farmers whose crops were not destroyed benefited from the hurricane. Why did this occur? What information would you need about the market for bananas in order to assess whether farmers as a group were hurt or helped by the floods?
PART B: Explain why the following might be true: A drought in the Caribbean raises the total revenue that producers receive from the sale of coffee, but a drought only in Grenada reduces the total revenue that Grenadian producers receive.
Ensure that you define any key terms used in your discussion.

A recent report on executive awareness of and involvement in corporate pandemic preparedness by Michael Evangelides, principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP, most top executives and boards of directors are not engaged in the influenza pandemic planning process and won't give it equal billing to other potential disruptions until at least one of the following occurs:
Media attention to pandemic influenza increases.
Legislation or regulation emerges, requiring a high level of preparedness.
Shareholders and investors demand a high level of preparedness.
The financial impact of a pandemic on the corporation becomes evident.
Obviously, planners can do little to nudge along the first three prerequisites. But, fortunately, the fourth is in their sphere of influence. And it is worth pursuing, says Penny Turnbull, senior director of crisis management and business continuity planning at Washington, DC–based Marriott International, Inc. "It certainly helps focus the minds of our senior…

Budget Surplus Case Study
A small midwestern city has a $1 million budget surplus. Two groups imme- diately begin vying for the funds. One of the requests comes from down- town businesses requesting to use the money to beautify downtown by adding brick sidewalks and planting areas with the goal of attracting cus- tomers. As city manager, you are aware that the downtown area has not been doing as well as predicted and that the small businesses are necessary for the development of a "vibrant downtown" as stated in the city's goals. The other request comes from the city's police department wanting to begin a unit to pursue "career criminals." You are familiar with the statistics and know that repeat offenders commit an overwhelming number of crimes. There is an apparent trend in police departments to address this issue separately.
The two groups are competing for limited resources. Both causes are considered worthy of city funding, but…

In this case study, we explore the meticulous planning and execution of a charity fundraising gala to support a local nonprofit organization. The gala aimed to raise funds for underprivileged children's education and healthcare. The organizing team faced the task of coordinating a luxurious evening event, complete with entertainment, fine dining, and silent auctions, all while staying within a limited budget. They also had to secure sponsorships, promote the event effectively, and ensure that all proceeds went directly to the cause. The study examines how the team managed to achieve their goals by leveraging volunteer support, creative cost-saving measures, and building partnerships with local businesses.
Question: How did the organizing team balance the desire for an upscale gala with the need to maximize funds for the charity, and what strategies can be adapted for similar fundraising events with limited resources?
